SRI & Co. Recommends Armor Tuff Tiles for Emergency Service Facilities

SRI & Company is a proud installer of Armor Tuff tiles, a durable flooring product used in more than 350 firehouses throughout the US. Armor Tuff is also widely used in police stations, emergency medical service buildings, industrial settings, retail, residential, and various other applications.

Armor Tuff was founded in 2012 in Rockaway, New Jersey, by a longtime firefighter looking for a flooring solution for firehouse apparatus bays. It had to be durable and easy to maintain, and wouldn’t chip, peel, crack, stain, or require periodic refinishing. He discovered robust interlocking PVC tiles that checked all of those boxes, and since then has been bringing Armor Tuff’s made-in-the-USA product to customers nationwide.

SRI & Co. recommends and has installed Armor Tuff floors in numerous firehouses due to their ability to withstand heavy fire apparatus and hard use by firefighters for years on end. Dropped tools won’t damage these resilient floors. Armor Tuff 20.5” x 20.5” tiles interlock, forming a tight seal that doesn’t allow the leeching of moisture through seams. They are non-skid and carry a 25-year warranty. A major advantage over other types of flooring is that loose-laid floors can be used immediately after installation, and heavy vehicles can be parked on floors installed using adhesive within 12-24 hours.

Adhesive is required in all fire apparatus bays and in areas of garages and ambulance bays where vehicle tires rest. With few exceptions, such as where 3-wheeled forklifts are operated in a confined area, almost all other floors can be loose-laid with no adhesive required. Armor Tuff offers two high-quality adhesives that are 100% compatible with their product, and they also provide non-skid additives and topcoats for environments where a high-gloss appearance is desired.

Preparation for Armor Tuff installation is straightforward. Grease- or oil-stained floors where adhesives will be used must be degreased prior to installation, and floors with large cracks or pieces of cement missing must be filled in with a self-leveling compound. In all other applications, little preparation is required other than a thorough broom sweep of the area.

If are in the NY/NJ tri-state area and are interested in installing Armor Tuff tiles in your emergency service building or another environment where a durable flooring material is an absolute must, please contact SRI & Co. at 973-832-7627.
