3 Key Factors for a Successful Epoxy Floor Installation

When it comes to epoxy flooring in commercial, industrial, and other non-residential settings, entrusting your installation to a highly experienced contractor is essential. In addition to selecting the best epoxy products for the application and using the proper installation techniques, which we have discussed in many of our other blog posts, seasoned epoxy flooring installers know that various other factors and conditions help guarantee superior results.

Close Collaboration Between Flooring Contractor and Client

Getting the best epoxy floor installation possible requires that the contractor clearly understands how the space will be utilized and the client’s desired outcome. On the other hand, the client must fully understand what the project will entail from start to finish. Most building owners can’t be expected to know all the ins and outs of epoxy coatings and the many factors that go into a proper installation, so it’s up to the flooring contractor to provide that education.

Prepare, Prepare, Prepare

Properly preparing the concrete underlayment is key to a high-quality epoxy flooring installation, and making determinations for what’s needed for a particular job is where the contractor’s level of expertise comes in. Depending on the surface's condition, preparations can include testing, cleaning, grinding, scraping, leveling, repairing holes and cracks, filling crevices, mitigating moisture, and various other tasks and treatments. These tasks require time and effort, so it is imperative that clients understand why they are required and can allot the contractor enough time to accomplish them.

Establish the Proper Conditions for the Project

Unlike many other flooring types, epoxy coatings require very specific environmental conditions and scheduling considerations to ensure a sound installation. These include limiting access to the area to prevent people from walking on the floor, installing the floors within the epoxy manufacturer’s recommended air temperature and humidity levels, keeping doors and windows closed to prevent the introduction of dust and dirt, and scheduling sufficient time to get the job done right.
